New Yorkers Back Natural Gas, Constititution Pipeline Despite Divided Opinions

A recent poll conducted by Impact Research has found broad support for natural gas in New York among voters across party lines. The survey, which took place from September 9-16, 2026, among 1,004 likely 2026 general election voters, showed that 61% of respondents have favorable views towards natural gas.

When asked about using natural gas in the state, a significant majority (74%) expressed support, while only 24% opposed it. Moreover, over three-in-five respondents (61%) supported building infrastructure to increase the supply of natural gas in New York.

The Constitution Pipeline was also found to have broad support among voters, with 46% supporting its construction before hearing arguments from both supporters and opponents. However, after being presented with balanced statements on both sides, a majority of respondents (52%) came out in favor of the pipeline.
