NGC, Shell Reach Deal on Aphrodite Gas Supplies
Trinidad and Tobago's National Gas Company (NGC) has reached an agreement with Shell to supply natural gas from Shell's Aphrodite field. The deal resolves a pricing dispute that had delayed development of the offshore project, clearing the way for first production in 2027.
The agreement comes after months of negotiations between NGC and Shell over the price of gas from the Aphrodite field. According to NGC Chairman Gerald Ramdeen, the revised terms significantly improved the economics for NGC compared to previous discussions.
NGC buys gas from producers and supplies it to downstream customers, including Trinidad's petrochemical sector and Atlantic LNG, in which Shell holds a 45% stake. The Aphrodite development is expected to provide a modest boost to Trinidad's gas supply as the Caribbean nation grapples with declining production.
