Niger Delta Deserves Industries, Not Just Oil Wells
Bayelsa's next chapter should not be defined by crude oil production or environmental challenges alone, according to Dr Domor Mienye, a governorship aspirant for All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Mienye called for 'industrial justice' in the Niger Delta after 70 years of commercial oil production. He believes that while environmental justice and fair resource allocation are crucial, it's time to add a third objective: building industries, creating jobs, and expanding economic opportunities.
The Bayelsa governorship aspirant pointed out that the region has received substantial revenues through FAAC and the 13% derivation over the years. He argued that these resources should have been used to lay the foundation for industrial estates, gas processing, petrochemicals, agro-processing, technology hubs, and thousands of sustainable jobs.
Mienye identified strategic projects such as the Brass Industrial Corridor, Agge Deep Seaport, gas-based industries, the blue economy, commercial agriculture, and technology-driven enterprises that can transform Bayelsa into an industrial hub if pursued through disciplined leadership, long-term planning, and stronger partnerships with the private sector.
