Novorossiysk Under Attack: Ukraine Targets Russian Warships and Grain Terminals
Ukrainian forces launched a major attack on Russia's Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, targeting its naval base and grain terminals. The strikes killed at least two people, including an 8-year-old child, regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said.
The Ukrainian security service described the attack as having 'strategic significance', stating that drones and missiles were used to hit warships at the naval base. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said two frigates, a large landing ship, a corvette, and other vessels were damaged.
The attack on the grain terminals raised fears of disruption to global wheat supplies, as Russia is the world's largest wheat exporter. Chicago wheat futures rose around 3% following the attack. Russia's agriculture ministry said it was redirecting export flows to alternative routes.
