Nigeria, Indonesia Talk Energy Deals Ahead of 2026 Licensing Round
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has entered into high-level talks with Indonesia to explore potential energy deals ahead of Nigeria's 2026 licensing round. The meeting aimed to boost domestic crude oil production, with both countries targeting significant increases by 2030.
Nigeria currently produces approximately 1.7 million barrels of oil per day and aims to reach 3 million barrels by 2030, while Indonesia produces around 600,000 barrels daily and seeks to hit 2.3 million by 2030. The NUPRC's Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, emphasized that Nigeria's targets are 'no less demanding,' with the country committed to achieving its objectives through various strategies, including the licensing round.
The talks also focused on simplifying regulations and incentivizing investments in Nigeria's energy sector. The NUPRC has reduced entry barriers, including signature bonuses, to attract more investors. In the last commercial bid conference held in July, 37 out of 50 assets were awarded.
