Nigeria LNG Faces Gas Supply Constraint Despite $10 Billion Train 7 Expansion
Nigeria LNG Ltd.'s (NLNG) Train 7 expansion project, valued at USD 10 billion, aims to boost liquefied natural gas (LNG) production from the Bonny Island facility. The current capacity is around 22 million tonnes per year, and with Train 7 in operation by the end of 2027, this will increase to 30 million tonnes annually.
NLNG Managing Director Adeleye Falade said that securing additional feed gas is a priority to restore production levels. The company is currently operating at around 82%, 83% capacity due to insufficient natural gas supply, with an estimated 15% gas supply gap to be closed.
The project has faced delays, including disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Falade emphasized that NLNG's biggest constraint is gas supply, not a lack of buyers for LNG exports.
