Nigeria Seeks Accountability in Oil and Gas Industry Amid Rising Output
Nigeria is looking to boost its oil and gas industry investment, with government officials urging energy journalists to hold the sector accountable for turning approved investments into actual production.
At the Association of Energy Correspondents Abuja (AECAF) annual conference, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, emphasized that the government's priority is proving to investors that policy will be consistently implemented, not just legislated.
The country has seen its crude output stay above OPEC quota for four straight months, averaging roughly 1.68 million barrels of crude and condensate per day in August 2026.
NUPRC Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan noted that approvals alone mean little without execution, as the Commission has approved Field Development Plans worth more than $57 billion since 2024.
