Nigeria Targets 2028 for End of Domestic Gas Price Regulation
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has set a target of September 2028 to end domestic gas price regulation in Nigeria.
This move is part of the Federal Government's efforts to strengthen the domestic gas industry, attract investment, and advance Nigeria's ambition of becoming a gas-powered economy by 2030, as outlined under the Decade of Gas initiative.
The NMDPRA Chief Executive Officer, Rabiu Umar, stated that the authority will establish a definite timeline for achieving a fully liberalised domestic gas market within the next 24 months.
This transition is expected to strike a balance between creating a commercially attractive environment for investors and ensuring that natural gas remains accessible and affordable to domestic consumers.
