Nigeria is aiming to increase its crude oil production to three million barrels per day (bpd) by 2030, according to Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri.

Lokpobiri, who was represented by his Technical Assistant, Business, Kroky Biowe, made the charge at an event in Abuja. The administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to achieving energy sufficiency and has taken deliberate steps to expand oil production and develop the required infrastructure.

Nigeria's daily production averaged 1.72 million bpd in the second quarter of 2026, recovering from earlier dips, such as July's direct crude output of 1.546 million bpd reported by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
