The Nigerian Army's 6 Division has a new General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Everest Okoro, who has pledged to strengthen protection of oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta.

Major General Okoro made this commitment during his inauguration as the 12th GOC of the division, citing the need to sustain efforts aimed at boosting Nigeria's oil production.

The outgoing GOC, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for the opportunity to serve, noting that when he assumed command in January 2025, Nigeria's daily crude oil production stood at about 1.3 million barrels per day, but had risen to approximately 1.5 million barrels per day through the division's efforts.

Major General Emekah urged his successor to sustain the momentum and charged personnel of the division to remain disciplined and professional in their duties.
