Nigerian Navy Seizes Vessel Siphoning Crude Oil in Akwa Ibom

The Nigerian Navy has made another significant dent in its war against crude oil theft after intercepting a vessel siphoning crude oil and transporting petroleum products without authorization. The operation, carried out under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, led to the arrest of 12 crew members and the seizure of hundreds of tonnes of suspected stolen petroleum products.

According to Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation followed credible intelligence generated through surveillance systems and sustained monitoring by naval platforms deployed under the operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vessel, MT FILIA, was carrying an estimated 32.82 metric tonnes of fuel oil and 650 metric tonnes of crude oil without required documentation or lawful authorization.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, praised the personnel involved for their professionalism, vigilance, and dedication to eliminating crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy's commitment to protecting critical oil and gas infrastructure and maintaining a secure maritime environment.
