The Bonga South-West Aparo (BSWA) project is one of Nigeria's most ambitious deepwater oil developments, with a potential lifetime investment of up to $21 billion.

The project has been in limbo for over two decades due to delays, negotiations, and commercial disputes, but recent agreements have brought it closer to reality.

The Federal Government approved the Deep Offshore Oil and Gas Projects Incentives (Tax Remission) Order 2026, which aims to improve Nigeria's deepwater investment environment. This policy intervention has provided renewed momentum for the project.

The BSWA project is expected to attract between $15 billion and $21 billion over its lifetime, with projected peak production of approximately 175,000 barrels of oil per day and about 140 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
