Nigeria's crude oil production declined by 5,000 barrels per day in August 2026, according to data submitted directly to OPEC. The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries reported that Nigeria's output averaged 1.5 million barrels per day in August, down from 1.505mbpd in July.

The decline marked the second consecutive monthly drop recorded by OPEC. Since January 2026, Nigerian crude production has fluctuated between approximately 1.45mbpd and 1.56mbpd.

However, secondary sources presented a different picture. They showed Nigerian production rising by 35,000bpd in August to 1.57mbpd, after a 46,000bpd drop the previous month from 1.58mbpd in June to 1.54mbpd in July.

OPEC data revealed that overall crude production from the Declaration of Cooperation group rose by approximately 0.3mbpd in August to 38.05mbpd. The increase was driven largely by OPEC members, whose combined output climbed by 346,000bpd to 24.08mbpd.
