Nigeria's crude oil production declined by 5,000 barrels per day in August 2026, according to figures submitted directly by the country to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The OPEC report shows that Nigeria met its quota for the month but recorded a modest decline in output compared to July. The drop marks the second consecutive monthly decrease in Nigeria's production.

The combined decline between June and August amounts to 55,000 barrels per day, with crude production fluctuating between roughly 1.45 million barrels per day (mbpd) and 1.56 mbpd since January 2026.

OPEC data also shows that secondary sources presented a different picture, with Nigerian production rising by 35,000 barrels per day in August to 1.57 mbpd after a 46,000 barrel drop the previous month.
