Nigeria's Gas Ambitions Hinge on Decade-Long Pipeline Infrastructure Push
Energy experts warn that Nigeria's ambitious plans to harness its vast natural gas resources may remain constrained unless the country invests in expanding and modernizing its pipeline infrastructure.
Nigeria has about 215.19 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, but its existing gas pipeline infrastructure spans only over 2,500 kilometres, according to Dr. Eloho Innocent Amagada, CEO of Amelin Projects Ltd.
Amagada stressed that reliable pipeline infrastructure is critical for power generation, fertiliser production, petrochemicals, manufacturing, compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The expert urged pipeline operators to adopt predictive integrity systems capable of identifying and addressing risks before they result in failures.
