Nigeria's Ima Gas Project Secures $800 Million Investment
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has welcomed the $800 million Final Investment Decision (FID) on the Ima Gas Project, a significant development in Nigeria's upstream gas sector. The project, located in Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 112 and 117, is being developed by indigenous operator AMNI International in partnership with TotalEnergies.
The Ima field is expected to deliver approximately 350 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, or 3.6 billion cubic metres annually, alongside significant condensate volumes. The output will supply critical feedgas to Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) to support its Train Seven expansion, increasing the Bonny Island plant's capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 30 Mtpa.
NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Ojulari described the FID as a decisive vote of confidence in the country's gas sector and the bold reforms that have created competitive terms and a predictable investment environment. He noted that the commercialisation of the Ima field represents a significant milestone in Nigeria's energy transition strategy.
