Nigeria's Palm Oil Production Falls Short of Rising Demand

Nigeria's palm oil production has increased by about 23% between 2020 and 2025, but local demand has outpaced supply.

Data from the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) shows that Nigeria produced 1.57 million tons of palm oil in 2025, up from 1.28 million tons in 2020.

However, domestic consumption rose from 2.45 million tons to 2.61 million tons over the same period, resulting in a widening gap between local supply and demand.

The Federal Government has initiated efforts to address this issue through improved traceability, including the establishment of a National Palm Oil Traceability Framework and an Inter-Agency Committee to oversee its implementation.
