Nikkei 225 Surges on Strong AI Sector Gains
The Tokyo Stock Exchange had a buoyant session on Tuesday, with the Nikkei 225 gaining over 2% and approaching the 67,000 level.
Growth was led by the AI and semiconductor sectors, following strong buying in these shares. This sent Tokyo Electron's price up by 4.8%, while SoftBank Group, an investor in OpenAI, advanced strongly by 6.4%.
The sentiment was further bolstered by easing concerns over energy supplies after the restoration of flows through the key Saudi East-West pipeline, leading to a drop in crude oil prices. Brent is trading at around $96 per barrel, while WTI is priced just under $90.
