NIPCO Unveils $3 Billion FLNG Project to Drive Nigeria's Gas Commercialisation
Nigeria's energy landscape is set to change significantly as NIPCO Group has announced plans to invest over $3 billion in a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility. The ambitious project, targeting an annual production capacity of three million tonnes, aims to drive Nigeria's gas commercialisation and boost both domestic supply and international export capabilities.
The FLNG facility is expected to be stationed either in the Escravos area of Delta State or Akwa Ibom State, locations chosen for their strategic access to robust upstream gas resources and marine transportation networks. The project will bypass traditional onshore LNG facilities, which require massive land acquisitions, complex community negotiations, and long-distance pipeline infrastructure.
Nagendra Verma, the Managing Director of NIPCO Gas Ltd., emphasized that the company is currently concluding comprehensive feasibility studies to finalize the technical requirements, commercial structuring, and precise location of the facility. The successful execution of the project will not only elevate NIPCO's corporate profile but also establish a compelling precedent for deploying advanced offshore processing technology within West Africa.
