NLC Demands Wage Awards and Crude Oil Sales to Curb Petrol Price Surge
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to implement immediate measures to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices in the country.
NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero expressed concern over the pump price of petrol, which is currently around N1,430 per litre in major cities and even higher in less accessible areas.
Ajaero warned that the rising transport costs would further increase the cost of essential goods and services, including food, school fees, rent, and tariffs, exacerbating poverty among the populace.
The labour leader attributed the latest surge to the resurgence of conflict in the Gulf but argued that Nigeria's status as an oil-producing country with local refining capacity should provide some protection against international supply shocks.
