Nigeria is facing another fuel price shock as petrol prices have surged to about N1,430 per litre in major cities. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has demanded immediate wage awards for workers and emergency measures to cushion the effect on Nigerians.

The NLC's President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, said the Federal Government must act urgently as higher logistics expenses would feed into prices of food, school fees, rents, tariffs, and other essential goods and services.

The union also called for sufficient crude oil to be made available to Nigerian refineries in naira. This, it argued, would strengthen domestic refining and petroleum supply chains, stimulate job creation, generate economic value, and strengthen national energy security.
