NLNG Calls for Global Gas Producers to Cut Methane Emissions
Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (NLNG) has called on global gas producers to make methane reduction a business priority, citing lost revenue and energy as a result of emissions.
In a panel discussion at Gastech 2026 Exhibition and Conference in Bangkok, NLNG's Managing Director, Mr. Adeleye Falade, urged the industry to shift its focus from the cost of methane reduction to the commercial value created by preventing gas losses.
Falade explained that every tonne emitted is lost product, resulting in lost revenue and energy. He cited NLNG's approach to measuring methane losses and using findings to guide investment in leak prevention and gas recovery.
The company has implemented projects such as its new boil-off gas compressor and start-ups gas recovery project, targeting methane reductions of 10-15% with positive projected net present values.
