NLNG Cuts Methane Emissions with New Gas Recovery Projects
Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has implemented new projects to reduce methane emissions by approximately 10-15% each, with expected positive financial returns over their operational lifecycles.
The company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, stated that the projects demonstrate methane abatement can deliver both environmental benefits and commercial value.
NLNG's strategy involves accurately measuring methane losses, identifying emission sources, and investing in technologies to prevent leaks and recover lost gas.
Falade emphasized that every tonne of methane emitted is lost product, revenue, and energy; gas that could have been sold. He added that the company's experience shows investments in methane reduction pay for themselves while improving emissions performance, plant efficiency, and asset reliability.
