NLNG Urges Global Gas Producers to Cut Methane Emissions

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has urged global gas producers to prioritize methane reduction, calling emissions 'lost gas and lost revenue'.

At the ongoing Gastech 2026 Exhibition and Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, NLNG's managing director, Adeleye Falade, made the call during a panel discussion.

Falade emphasized that every tonne of methane emitted is 'lost product', leading to lost revenue and energy. He argued that the industry should focus on the commercial value created by preventing gas losses rather than just the cost of reduction.

NLNG's approach involves measuring methane losses and investing in leak prevention and gas recovery projects, such as its new boil-off gas compressor and start-up gas recovery project.

These projects have targeted methane reductions of 10 to 15% and have positive projected net present values. Falade noted that the discipline required for methane reduction also improves asset reliability and plant efficiency.
