NNPC Unveils Ambitious Plans to Make Nigeria a Global Gas Powerhouse
Nigeria is pursuing multiple strategies to establish itself as a global gas hub, according to Olalekan Ogunleye, Executive Vice President of Gas, Power & New Energy at NNPC Limited.
Ogunleye spoke at the 2026 Gas Technology & Exhibition Conference (GASTECH) in Bangkok, Thailand, highlighting Nigeria's large proven reserves and its potential for domestic industrialization and export growth.
The country has a target of raising national gas production to 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 Bcf/d by 2030, with key LNG projects such as Trains 1 to 6 producing 22 million tonnes per annum and exporting over 6,000 LNG cargoes since 1999.
Nigeria's geographical position gives it a strategic edge as a global supplier, reinforced by its large gas resource base and national focus on gas development.
