Norsk Hydro's Alunorte refinery in Brazil has resumed full alumina production after reaching a temporary deal to access natural gas. The agreement comes following ANP approval for self-import status, allowing the company to bypass local infrastructure bottlenecks.

The disruption caused an estimated 100,000 to 120,000 tonnes of lost output and is expected to impact Norsk Hydro's Bauxite & Alumina segment with a potential loss of $75 million to $100 million in Q3 2026. The company continues to pursue long-term gas supply solutions.

The agreement enables the refinery to operate at full capacity, reversing a previous contingency measure that reduced output by half. This operational recovery comes as Norsk Hydro seeks to address energy insecurity and secure stable gas supplies for its operations.
