North America Faces Pipeline Shortfall as Demand Surges
North America's growing demand for natural gas is putting pressure on pipeline infrastructure as delays threaten to disrupt supply, according to Amy Andryszak, CEO of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA).
Even under a low-carbon scenario, the region could require 54 Bcf/d of incremental natural gas transmission capacity and roughly 25,000 miles of new pipelines by 2050 to meet demand.
The problem is exacerbated by long lead times for turbines, which can take up to 42 months to deliver.
