North Dakota Oil Production Sees Slight Decline in May

North Dakota's oil production decreased by about 16,000 barrels of oil per day in May, according to the state's Department of Mineral Resources. The total production for the month was 34.875 million barrels, down from 1.14 million barrels per day in April.

Nathan Anderson, director of the department, reported that the majority of the state's oil production comes from the Bakken/Three Forks formations, which accounted for 97.4% of total production.

The top five oil-producing counties in North Dakota are McKenzie, Williams, Dunn, Mountrail, and Divide, making up almost 97% of the state's oil production. Among these counties, McKenzie County led with 33.4% of total production.

Justin Kringstad, executive director of the North Dakota Pipeline Authority, noted that for the first time in recent history, wellhead pricing in North Dakota was higher than West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.56 per barrel.
