North-South Grain Price Divide Widens Amid Australian Drought
The north-south feed grain spread in Australia is opening up again due to rising prices in the north, despite steady prices in the south.
Feed wheat and barley prices in the Darling Downs have rallied in recent weeks, climbing back over $400 per tonne in August. This movement follows a temporary decline after early winter rains helped dampen demand.
This trend suggests that southern Queensland may be experiencing supply shortages, forcing producers to truck grain in at high costs. In contrast, feed grain prices in the south have remained relatively steady since harvest, tracking around $300-320 per tonne.
