Norway Readies for Peak Gas Demand as European Prices Soar
Norway's natural gas export system is well-equipped to meet high demand from Europe throughout the winter season, according to pipeline operator Gassco.
The country has become Europe's largest supplier of natural gas since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, meeting around 30% of demand from both the European Union and Britain.
Gassco recently completed major revisions to its transportation system and maintenance plans for the year, ensuring a smooth supply chain.
European gas prices have more than doubled in 2026 to around €73 per megawatt hour (MWh), following the US-Israeli war on Iran which restricted supplies of liquefied natural gas.
