Norway's Gas Exports Prepare for Peak Demand Ahead of Winter
Norway's natural gas export system is prepared to meet Europe's high demand during the upcoming winter, according to Gassco, the operator of the Scandinavian country's gas pipeline network. The statement comes ahead of October 1, which marks the beginning of the new gas year and the peak period for deliveries to Europe. Gassco has completed scheduled maintenance work that temporarily reduced exports in September.
The transmission system is functioning properly, and Norway can ensure necessary deliveries throughout the winter, said a spokesperson. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Norway became Europe's leading natural gas supplier. Fields operated by Equinor and other companies cover approximately 30% of demand in the European Union and the United Kingdom.
In 2025, Gassco transported 114.9 billion cubic meters of gas through an 8,800-kilometer network to Germany, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, and Denmark. Since the beginning of the year, deliveries have reached 86.2 billion cubic meters, 2.1 billion cubic meters above the level recorded during the same period in 2025.
