Nova Power & Gas claims it did not participate in discussions on the LNG Vertical Corridor project, despite being invited to join the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Athens in November 2025. The MoU expired on February 5, 2026, without an agreement or draft contract being reached.

Nova Power & Gas says it was approached by representatives of Transgaz, the Romanian Government, and the Ministry of Energy through Secretary of State Cristian Busoi, just one day before the signing. The company met the profile required for the MoU, having subsidiaries in neighboring countries and importing most of its gas from Bulgaria in recent years.

The quantities of gas mentioned in the MoU were intended mainly for transit, not domestic consumption in Romania. According to Nova Power & Gas, imports for domestic consumption would have only been made during the period 2036-2049 when a deficit was expected due to domestic production and consumption imbalances.
