NSE Introduces First Domestic Natural Gas Futures for Transparent Price Discovery
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is launching India's first domestic natural gas futures on July 27. This new contract will allow traders and investors to better manage risks in the country's growing energy market.
The Indian Natural Gas Futures, a cash-settled contract, will be traded under the symbol NATGASIND and will be priced based on the Gujarat (Dahej) hub benchmark of the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX). This benchmark excludes transportation costs, taxes, and other applicable charges, providing an accurate reflection of the underlying gas price.
The new contract is expected to strengthen India's evolving gas trading landscape by introducing a domestic benchmark that reflects market conditions rather than international pricing trends. NSE Clearing will oversee the clearing, settlement, and risk management functions for the newly launched contracts.
