NSW Border Towns Face Higher Gas Costs as ACT Phases Out Piped Fuel
The ACT's plan to phase out piped gas by 2045 may have far-reaching consequences for residents in NSW border towns, particularly those connected to the Canberra natural gas network.
Nationals Upper House member Nichole Overall questioned NSW Energy Minister Penny Sharpe during a Legislative Council question time about how the government planned to ensure residents of border towns wouldn't face higher costs or reduced reliability due to the ACT's move.
Ms. Sharpe responded that while the issue was primarily a matter for the Australian Capital Territory, the NSW Government would keep an eye on its impact and acknowledged that prices could change over time depending on system dynamics.
Evoenergy, which provides gas distribution services across the Territory and to around 16,250 customers in the Queanbeyan-Palerang region, admitted there would be 'implications' for its NSW customers as demand decreased in Canberra.
