NT EPA Sues Ichthys LNG Over Alleged Toxic Emissions Under-Reporting
Ichthys LNG Pty Ltd is facing legal action from the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NT EPA) over allegations of under-reporting toxic emissions from its Darwin Harbour operations.
The NT EPA initiated prosecution after a multi-year investigation into Ichthys' reporting practices, which revealed significant discrepancies in emissions data submitted by the company.
According to the NT environment minister Joshua Burgoyne, the investigation formed part of a broader regulatory response to concerns about hydrocarbon management and air-quality impacts in the Darwin region.
The Ichthys LNG plant is one of the largest industrial operators on Darwin Harbour, supporting LNG exports, offshore supply chains, and tug and pilotage activity. The prosecution signals a significant escalation in regulatory scrutiny of harbour-based industrial operations.
