NWSC Bolsters Hoima's Water Supply Amidst Oil Boom

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is working to strengthen Hoima's water supply system, which has been strained by rapid urbanisation and oil developments in the Albertine Region. The Hoima 2 Water Supply Project aims to supplement the existing Hoima 1 System, which has struggled to meet growing demand.

The project will draw raw water from River Kafu in Kikuube District and treat it at a new conventional plant with a capacity of 2 million litres per day. The treated water will then be transmitted to Hoima City through a bulk transfer system.

In addition to the treatment plant, the project includes 25 kilometres of transmission pipelines, an elevated reservoir at Musaijamukulu Hill, and associated pumping and storage infrastructure. NWSC is also finalising designs for the proposed Hoima 3 System, which will provide a long-term solution to the city's water needs.
