NYK Names DIAMOND GAS NEXUS LNG Carrier for Mitsubishi Subsidiary
Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has named its newly built liquefied natural gas carrier, DIAMOND GAS NEXUS, at a ceremony held on September 18. The vessel is chartered to Diamond Global Energy, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, under a long-term time-charter arrangement.
The ship will be used mainly for LNG transportation tied to the Cameron LNG project in the United States, where both Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK have a stake. DIAMOND GAS NEXUS features the latest WinGD dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine, which can run on fuel oil and boil-off gas.
NYK's medium-term management plan, Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026, focuses on strengthening its core businesses while investing in new growth areas. The company has emphasized the importance of LNG and LPG carriers as a growth field within its Energy Business Division.
