Nyoro Demands Transparency on Lamu Refinery Shareholders
Kenyan MP Ndindi Nyoro has called for transparency in the proposed Lamu refinery project, demanding disclosure of its shareholders.
The People's Party of Kenya leader made the remarks during engagements in Nakuru County, saying Kenyans have a right to know who owns the project, particularly since it involves Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote.
Nyoro expressed support for major investors like Dangote, but emphasized that investment deals should be transparent and businesses protected from improper interference.
The proposed refinery is part of a strategy to transform Kenya into a regional processing and industrial hub, with President William Ruto promoting plans for a facility capable of processing approximately 700,000 barrels of crude oil per day at an estimated investment of around $16 billion.
