Ohio Governor Suspends Gas Tax for Three-Month Holiday
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed a bill into law that temporarily suspends the state's gas tax. The reduction takes effect on October 4 and will last for three months, until around January 2 of next year.
The new law reduces the state's tax on gasoline from 38.5 cents to 1 cent per gallon, and diesel fuel from 47 cents to 1 cent per gallon. Other motor fuels like compressed natural gas, propane, and liquified natural gas are not affected by this change.
Lawmakers believe that motorists could save between $3 and $7 per fill-up during the gas tax holiday, as estimated by the American Automobile Association. The national average gas price is currently around $4.41 per gallon, while Ohio's average is about $4.20 per gallon.
