Oil Falls for Fourth Day Amid Hopes of Strait Reopening
Commodity markets were mixed on August 27, with oil prices continuing to fall due to hopes that talks between Iran and Qatar could help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Oil futures for Brent crude fell by $0.60 or 0.7% to $87.24 a barrel, marking its fourth consecutive day of losses. Similarly, West Texas Intermediate crude futures declined by $0.56 or 0.7% to $81.67 a barrel, extending its losing streak to five days.
In contrast, gold prices consolidated near $4,600 an ounce as investors weighed the Federal Reserve's approach to inflation ahead of the Jackson Hole gathering this week. The Fed's stance on inflation is being closely watched by markets, and any indication of a more aggressive monetary policy could impact gold prices.
