Oil, Gold Prices Climb Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The global market is experiencing heightened geopolitical tensions as oil and gold prices rise ahead of key US inflation data. The yen has weakened against the dollar, having unwound much of its gains following rare intervention in currency markets by Japan and the United States.
US crude rose 0.61% to $83.71 a barrel, while Brent increased to $89.46 per barrel, up 0.62%. Spot gold climbed 0.77% to $4,400.44 an ounce, with spot silver rising 1% to $65.30 an ounce.
The market is anticipating US consumer price index data later in the session, which could influence expectations for a potential Federal Reserve rate hike. Fed Bank of Boston President Susan Collins stated she would support a September interest rate rise if inflation remains high.
