Oil Price Surge Sends U.S. Stocks Tumbling
New York stock market indexes suffered losses on Tuesday as oil prices surged past $4. The major decline in stocks followed a significant rise in U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, which increased by over $4 to $105.78 per barrel.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 328 points, or 0.63%, to close at 52,093. The Nasdaq Composite declined 204 points, or 0.78%, to 25,981. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 dropped approximately 34 points, or 0.45%, to finish at 7,585.
