Global markets experienced a cautious trading day on Wednesday as investors kept a close eye on interest rates and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The price of Brent crude oil surged past $100 a barrel, with a 2.5% increase to $100.39 per barrel, while U.S. crude rose 1.9% to $94.85 per barrel.

France's CAC 40 lost 1.1%, the German DAX declined 0.9%, and Britain's FTSE 100 shed 0.5%. In contrast, South Korea's Kospi gained 1.4%, while Taiwan's Taiex edged 0.2% higher.

The Federal Reserve is set to meet next week to decide on interest rates, with economists predicting a slight easing of inflation from 3.4% in July to 3.3% in August.
