Oil Prices Drop Amid Ongoing US-Iran Tensions

Oil prices experienced a significant drop on Wednesday despite ongoing US-Iran tensions. The decrease came after Brent crude futures and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures had reached their highest levels since July 24 earlier in the session.

Brent crude futures fell by 30 cents, or 0.3%, to $94.35 a barrel, while WTI crude futures dropped by 58 cents, or 0.6%, to $89.64 a barrel by 12:24 GMT.

The decline in oil prices comes as traders weigh the risks of supply disruptions against the continued flow of crude supplies into global markets. The US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated that 17 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, marking the highest level of crude flows through the waterway since the war with Iran disrupted supply traffic.

The US and Iran have returned to a state of heightened tensions following overnight strikes against each other. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that the US attacks would lead to further restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which carries around one-fifth of global oil consumption.
