Oil Prices Drop as U.S.-Iran Truce Hopes Overshadow Saudi Arabia Attacks
Oil prices retreated on September 25 as hopes of a U.S.-Iran truce overshadowed renewed attacks on Saudi Arabia. WTI crude fell to approximately $92.93 per barrel, down $1.68 or 1.78% from the previous day's settlement.
Brent crude also declined, trading at around $105.52 per barrel, a drop of $1.08 or 1.01% from Thursday's settlement. The Brent-WTI spread widened to roughly $12.60 per barrel, with concerns over potential U.S. diesel-export restrictions contributing to the divergence.
Market analysts pointed out that renewed optimism about diplomatic efforts between the U.S. and Iran could be reducing the Middle East risk premium. Negotiators in New York are exploring a phased approach toward ending the conflict, which could involve Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Washington lifting its economic blockade.
