Oil Prices Fall Amid Tensions with Iran as US Stock Markets See Mixed Results
Asian stock markets showed mixed results on Tuesday, while oil prices held steady despite increased tensions between the US and Iran. The price of Brent crude fell 3.6% to $87.27, marking a second decline in a row following 13 consecutive gains.
The drop in oil prices helped ease concerns about high inflation in the bond market, supporting stock prices. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, edging closer to its all-time high set earlier this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 160 points, or 0.3%, and the Nasdaq composite climbed 0.7%.
Nvidia led the way among AI stocks, rising 2.2% after a 2.9% drop the previous day. However, Dick's Sporting Goods plummeted 30.7%, its worst decline on record, following weaker-than-expected quarterly results and lower profit forecasts for both its Dick's and Foot Locker businesses.
A report from the Conference Board showed that confidence among US consumers weakened more than expected, raising concerns about household spending and economic growth.
