Oil Prices Fall Amid US-Iran Compensation Dispute
Oil prices took a hit on Tuesday as tensions between the US and Iran continued to escalate. The dispute centers around compensation for past conflicts, with US President Donald Trump calling on Iran to pay families affected by its military actions, particularly those linked to General Soleimani.
Iran, however, is pushing for compensation from the US for earlier military damage. Despite the ongoing standoff, oil prices are not spiking, with Brent crude dipping to $87.59 a barrel and WTI crude edging down to $82.05.
Analysts at ING warn that these U.S.-Iran issues may persist, keeping oil price risks in play. Shipments through the key Strait of Hormuz are still moving, but Iraq's exports have dropped since the conflict started.
