Oil Prices Plummet After Trump Cancels Iran Attack Plans
Oil prices plummeted over $4 per barrel on Sunday after US President Donald Trump cancelled plans to attack Iran's infrastructure. The sudden change in plans led to a decrease in concerns about supply disruptions, causing oil prices to drop. According to Reuters, the Brent crude oil price fell by $4.08, or 4.64 percent, to $83.85 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude oil price dropped by $4.01, or 4.74 percent, to $80.66 per barrel.
Last month, prices of both types of crude oil had increased by more than 20 percent after the US resumed airstrikes on Iran and Tehran's army attacked several oil-carrying ships in areas around Oman. The recent escalation in tensions between the US and Iran led to a surge in oil prices as investors became increasingly concerned about potential supply disruptions.
However, with Trump's decision to postpone the attack, concerns have somewhat decreased, resulting in a drop in oil prices. This sudden change in market sentiment is a significant development for oil traders and investors who had been bracing themselves for a potential increase in oil prices.
