Oil Prices Plummet Amid Diplomatic Hopes and Regional Conflict
Oil prices have dropped to their lowest level in 11 days as investors become cautiously optimistic about diplomatic progress on the Iran-US conflict and a partial recovery of oil shipments in Saudi Arabia.
The Brent Crude and US West Texas crude prices hit their lowest since September 10, trading around $100 a barrel. This comes after Iran and the US exchanged fresh threats on Sunday, but US President Donald Trump stated he would be willing to meet with his Iranian counterpart, who is expected to attend the UN General Assembly.
The fighting in the region continues, however, as Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis attacked the Saudi capital and the Aramco facility in the Red Sea city of Yanbu. The attacks on Aramco's east-west pipeline have led Saudi Arabia to boost exports through the Strait of Hormuz after stopping some shipments via Yanbu.
China has urged Tehran to help fight the Houthis, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
