Oil Prices Plummet Amid Diplomatic Hopes Between US and Iran
Oil prices plummeted to their lowest level in over a week on September 21, as investors bet on diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran. The possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict has led some traders to believe that tensions will ease.
A partial recovery in Saudi Arabia's oil exports is also contributing to the decline in prices. Despite attacks by Yemen's Houthis, shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have increased to 2.9 million barrels per day, up from just 700,000 in August.
Analysts at JPMorgan noted that oil flows from the Middle East remain resilient despite disruptions to Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline. However, Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade, cautioned that expectations alone do not guarantee real progress in negotiations.
